Frequently Ask Questions when moving in Bronx

Frequently Ask Questions when moving in Manhattan

The average cost of moving in Bronx can range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. Mack’s Moving provides transparent flat fee pricing for the cost of your Manhattan move. Your move in Bronx Is calculated by our flat fee moving formula. The volume of your items, the mileage of your move, and any special requests & moving complexities all factor into your moving cost. Check out our average Bronx moving cost guide where we break down the cost of an average move for studio and multi-room apartments in Bronx.

Bronx offers a variety of neighborhoods for every lifestyle.

In Bronx, the first and last few days of each month are peak moving days, especially in spring and summer. This is because most new leases start at the beginning of the month. If you are able to, move in the middle of the month to ensure availability with our movers.

Both morning and afternoon moves are popular moving times in Bronx. Mornings are in high demand at any time of year, as many people want to settle into their new home earlier. Another reason why morning moves are popular is that some elevator buildings typically don’t let people move in after 5pm, making morning and afternoon moves a necessity.

Fridays and weekends are high-demand moving days as most people try to avoid taking too much time off work. Sunday can also be a cheaper move for walk up apartments and house moves since elevator buildings do not generally let people move in & out on a Sunday. If you can afford to take a day out of the office, the start of the week is always a more flexible time to move, from Monday to Wednesday.

As Bronx’s best moving company, Mack’s Moving offers extensive moving services in Manhattan. No matter what you are moving or where you are moving it to, we’ve got you covered 24/7, 365 days a year. Services include:

  • Local moves
  • Long Distance out of state moves
  • Residential moves
  • Office and commercial moves
  • Storage Services
  • Packing and unpacking
  • Moving boxes and packing supplies
  • Plastic moving bin rental service

Yes, Mack’s Moving offers short and long term storage services in Bronx. Our On-Demand Bronxstorage service is affordable and reliable. We will come to you, pick up your items, move them to our storage facility in NYC and deliver them back to you when you need them. Never visit a storage unit or have the hassle of moving your own items.

The general rule of thumb is to base your tip on a percentage of your total move cost, and tipping 15% – 20% of your total cost is an industry average. We recommend a tiered approach depending on whether you’re managing a large relocation, a medium sized move with some challenges or a small local move. In the end, if you can’t afford a tip, good reviews on websites such as Yelp, Google and Facebook are much appreciated by your movers and go a long way in recognizing their hard work.

Our top Bronx moving tips

Maybe you’re familiar with some of the other NYC boroughs already and have an expectation about what you’ll be in for when you move to the Bronx.

In any case, there’s a lot to see and experience within these 57 square miles. You can find all that you’re looking for, whether it be work, play, or both with 1.4 million of your Bronx neighbors.

There’s quite a bit to know about the northernmost part of NYC, so we’ve put together a few points to get you started:

  • Cost of living. A big draw for residing in this borough is the pairing of city livin’ and affordable abodes. To be more specific, rent is about 38% lower in the Bronx than it is in Manhattan. On average, rent for a Bronx one-bedroom will cost about $2,200 — which is almost $1k less than its downtown borough counterpart. Even getting your sweat on at a local gym will cost less; considering the average fitness club monthly membership is around $30 as opposed to over $100 in Manhattan. Some costs will remain the same no matter where you reside in the boroughs, like a $2.75 one-way subway fare or 8.875% sales tax. However, there is another standout in terms of costs… when it comes to time. The average one-way commute for those who call the Bronx home is about 44 minutes. If you consider that time is money, it’s worth deciding how that will fit into your budget.
  • The great outdoors. You can get both the big-city-feel in this northernmost borough and enjoy what nature has to offer. And the Bronx has it in spades. Take a stroll through some fantastic flora at the New York Botanical Garden or Wave Hill, a public garden and cultural center. Many folks may also be surprised to learn that Central Park isn’t the biggest of its kind in the city; it’s actually the Bronx’s Pelham Bay Park, which comes in at 2,772 acres. Van Cortlandt Park and Bronx Park are also listed in the city’s largest parks if you’re hoping to find wide-open spaces in the Bronx. And while you may have already found a favorite beach elsewhere, don’t overlook Pelham Bay’s Orchard Beach, formally known as “The Riviera of New York City,” as your next ocean view.
  • Bites & sips. You won’t be lacking in flavor, because the Bronx will bring it to you every time. Hoping for hops? The Bronx’s own Gun Hill Brewery offers local handcrafted brews, including their Void of Light Export Style Stout — voted 2021’s Best Stout Beer in New York State! Join your fellow borough-dwellers at a favorite spot to share some pub grub at the Bronx Alehouse. You may do a double take when checking out the map, but it’s no mistake: the Bronx has its own Little Italy. This well-kept secret is a great place to stock up on your pasta supply or maybe even splurge on an espresso machine at the Arthur Avenue Retail Market.
  • Hip-Hop history. The early 1970’s saw the birth of a new genre of music, courtesy of DJ Kool Herc, right in the Boogie Down Bronx. After partnering up with fellow DJ Grandmaster Flash and grabbing some turntables, they took to the parks of the South Bronx to further develop their sound. The Furious Five, of which Grandmaster was a member, wrote “The Message” a rap about the social and economic experiences of living in the Bronx at the time. From there, the genre grew to what is now a sound sought after across the globe (and there’s a lot of detail in between). Dig into the local history by visiting Kool Herc’s former home at 1520 Sedgewick Ave, where many events had taken place that hatched this style of music. You can also take advantage of a curated Boogie Down Bronx Tour from Hush Tours to check out where these beats originated.
  • Arts & culture. If you’re hoping to pick up a bit on other sites that define the brand of this borough, you’ll be delighted to know the offerings are pretty diverse. Ready to discover your wild side? Bring your crew to the famed Bronx Zoo, where you can book an in-person spot with a cheetah or take a spin on the bug carousel! If (baseball) diamonds are more your style, pick up some tickets to root on your home team at Yankee Stadium. For the literary-minded seeking a “kingdom by the sea”, you can visit Edgar Allan Poe’s cottage — a place where he penned such poems as “Annabel Lee” and “The Bells.” You also don’t have to traverse downtown to appreciate the arts, this borough also brings you The Bronx Museum of the Arts and Lehman Center for Performing Arts. Maybe you’re ready to put the pedal to the pavement? If so, join the Tour de Bronx on your bicycle to see the sites on two wheels.

These guys were fantastic, they did everything we asked of them and WAY more. Our move unexpectedly ran over and required two trips and they stayed the extra hours and made absolutely sure we were completely taken care of. Highly recommend.

When they ask you to sign for the start and end time, MAKE SURE TO ASK TO READ WHAT YOU'RE SIGNING!!! The movers may try to rush you through the process or insist on verbalizing what it is but DON'T DO THAT! Just read before you sign since you might be waiving your rights in case of damage. Fortunately I only had small damages but according their BBB reviews, that seems to be a BIG and RECURRING issue. The total price ended up being ~$600 more than quoted and I don't know if I'd recommend Mack's Moving Company again. They broke my fan and charged me for a mattress bag and tv box that didn't get used. I had my own tv box, so it's okay. But seeing them drag the mattress all over the dirty floor was very upsetting. Out of the three movers, Tomas was the only professional. He had moving gloves, smarts to get stuff around corners without damage, friendly, and sanitized the mattress after I made a comment about it being dragged around dirty floors. I didn't ask him to clean it so it was super nice and professional of him to do that on his own. The driver was okay but seemed a little high? I don't mind - and I might totally be wrong and that's just his personality. Nothing really got damaged during the drive as far as we can tell. The 16 year old kid Mack's moving employs had a bit of an attitude but very much in line with his age after he told me how old he was (unprompted - but it made sense). They took an hour or two for lunch mid trip but they asked before hand and all was good. There was some miscommunication though and the owner called me a week after the trip saying they undercharged me and wanted almost $500 more! We cleared it up since he was going to charge for the time they took for lunch but didn't realize. The price was good, but I was misled with the quote. They charge roughly the same rate twiceover for transport and labor... IE: if they take an hour driving to pickup from dispatch, you get charged an hour for labor PLUS whatever distance they did rounded up. That wasn't very clear in the estimate and a not nice surprise...

Quick and easy pricing. Was able to move with 3 days notice. Team was professional and worked "smarter", not harder. They did this by reviewing each space to determine what went where then got to work. Used them for a short move within the capital region. Pricing was the best of their insured competitors

We just had Mack’s Moving do an in-house move for us. From the second floor to the first floor. Donovan and Aidan were very professional. The one piece of furniture I thought would be an issue, wasn’t. They were able to move it downstairs. I highly recommend these guys for your next move.
